I would like to welcome readers to the 2023 Fall Edition of Sweat Magazine, the official magazine of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association and your source of information for collegiate sport in Ontario. On behalf of our 26 member institutions, I would to extend our appreciation to Humber College and their respective journalism program for their continued support of Ontario collegiate athletics with the publication of Sweat magazine.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the institutions who played host to provincial and national championships this fall. You continue to provide a tremendous platform for student-athletes to showcase their talents that result in life-long memories.
Congratulations to this fall’s OCAA Championship teams:
Golf – Humber College – Men and Women
Softball – St. Clair College
Baseball – St. Clair College
Cross Country – Mohawk College Men and St. Clair College Women
Men’s Rugby – Georgian College
Women’s Rugby 7’s – Durham College
Men’s Soccer – Conestoga College
Women’s Soccer – Seneca College
In addition to provincial success, OCAA members continue to perform well on the national stage. This fall the Humber men’s golf team captured their 12th national title, while the Seneca Sting won their first national women’s soccer gold medal. It was also the first for any OCAA women’s soccer team.
The OCAA welcomed Vidflex, a new live-streaming partner this year and early results have been impressive. The quality of our live-stream broadcasts continue to improve and the increase in viewership demonstrates an appetite for OCAA content.
For fifty plus years, the OCAA has been providing opportunities for student-athletes to compete and develop positive characteristics such as team work, leadership, work ethic and dedication to assist them in their future endeavors beyond college. I wish all of our student-athletes success on and off the field of play and would like to extend my appreciation to all of the administrators, coaches, trainers and therapy staff who support student-athletes in their pursuit of athletic and academic excellence.
Jeff Harris, OCAA President
